Pengkalan Gawi: The Main Gateway
Pengkalan Gawi serves as the primary entry point to Kenyir Lake. To ensure a seamless experience for visitors, a wide range of facilities has been established, including a Tourist Information Centre, boat ticketing counters, and a passenger jetty. Other amenities include a prayer room (surau), retail shops, restaurants, food stalls, public telephones, restrooms, recreational areas, and designated campsites.
By Air
For travelers preferring air travel, Malaysia Airlines (MAS) and AirAsia operate daily flights from KLIA and klia2 (formerly LCCT) to Kuala Terengganu. Upon arrival, you may rent a vehicle or utilize taxi services to reach Kenyir Lake. Additionally, visitors traveling from Penang or Kuala Lumpur can fly directly to Kuala Terengganu via Firefly.
By Land
The most convenient route is via the East Coast Expressway (LPT) to Kuantan. From there, travelers have two primary options:
Take the Jerangau-Jabor highway toward Ajil.
Take the scenic coastal road passing through Kemaman, Dungun, and Kuala Terengganu before reaching Ajil.
From Ajil, proceed toward Kuala Berang and follow the signs directly to Pengkalan Gawi.
For those traveling from the Northern Region, you may take the East-West Highway via Gerik (Perak) to Tanah Merah and Pasir Puteh (Kelantan), continuing toward Besut and the Sungai Tong junction before heading to Kenyir Lake. Alternatively, you may now use the Simpang Pulai – Kuala Berang route via Gua Musang, which provides direct access to the lake.
