KETENGAH Strengthens Rural Economy Through PROSPEK Corn Cultivation Project in Seberang Tayor

Kemaman, May 11, 2026 (Monday) | The Ministry of Rural and Regional Development (KKDW) through the Integrated Village Economic Development Project (PROSPEK) initiative remains committed to transforming rural areas through a more comprehensive, resilient, and sustainable economic development approach.
KETENGAH, as the implementing agency, has been carrying out this project since 2025 in Kampung Seberang Tayor Hilir and Kampung Seberang Tayor Hulu through a group corn cultivation project. The implementation of this project is also supported by various forms of infrastructure and facility assistance such as drainage drills (cattle catchers), a collection center and agricultural input store as a group operations center, project landmarks as area development identity, drainage maintenance works, and area clearing to ensure the agricultural area is in optimal condition.
In addition, the provision of two (2) seed planters has helped increase the efficiency of planting work, while project signboards serve as an information medium and branding for the initiative to the local community. All these components have had a positive impact in accelerating work processes and increasing the productivity of corn crops in the area.
At the same time, participants of the corn cultivation project in Kampung Seberang Tayor Hilir have successfully obtained the Malaysian Good Agricultural Practices (myGAP) Certificate issued by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (KPKM). The awarding of this certificate proves that the cultivation practices implemented comply with established safety, quality, and sustainability standards, thereby increasing the market value of the cultivated corn crops.
YM Dato’ Tengku Ahmad Nadzri bin Tengku Musa, General Manager of KETENGAH, along with the management line, conducted a field visit to the project location to personally observe current developments and evaluate the effectiveness of project implementation at the ground level. This visit also reflects the management's commitment to ensuring that every planned initiative can be implemented effectively and provide optimal benefits to the participants.
During the visit, YM Dato’ Tengku Ahmad Nadzri bin Tengku Musa, General Manager of KETENGAH, also had the opportunity to taste the harvested sweet corn, as a symbol of support and appreciation for the diligent efforts of the project participants.
According to Ab. Khalid bin Kamaludin, Head of the Seberang Tayor Hilir Corn Cultivation Group, the presence of YM Dato’ has given a great boost of morale to the participants and increased their confidence in the potential of this project to continue to grow. He also expressed his appreciation for KETENGAH's concern in helping farmers, especially in strengthening the economy of rural communities to be more competitive and viable in the future.
