Bukit Besi Museum, Dungun, received a visit from 50 international students and staff on 11 June 2026 through an educational visit programme aimed at introducing the nation's mining heritage to delegates from abroad.

The delegation comprised 30 students and staff from Yala Rajabhat University, Thailand, 10 students from Universitas Islam Negeri Salatiga, Indonesia, and 10 students from Seri Eshwar College of Engineering, India. The visit was led by Cik Wan Nursyamimi Binti Wan Mohd Zafry from the International Affairs Department, UiTM Cawangan Terengganu.

This programme aimed to provide direct exposure to the glorious history of the iron ore mining industry in Bukit Besi, which was once a vital economic driver for the country. Participants were briefed on the development of mining activities, which began around 1930 under the management of Nippon Mining Company (NMC) before being continued by Eastern Mining and Metal Company (EMMCO) until its operations ceased in 1971. They also had the opportunity to examine various artefacts from the mining heritage and understand the lives of the multi-ethnic communities who once inhabited the area, thus appreciating the role of this industry in shaping the local social and economic landscape.

This visit not only introduced Malaysia's historical heritage to international students but also supported KETENGAH's efforts to preserve, promote, and elevate the historical value of Bukit Besi as a valuable treasure for present and future generations to appreciate.

It is hoped that programmes like this will be continued by UiTM Cawangan Terengganu as an ongoing effort to provide informative, interactive, and relaxed learning experiences for the younger generation, while fostering awareness of the importance of preserving the nation's historical heritage for the appreciation of future generations.
