RM8.7 MILLION HOUSEBOAT MOORING EMBANKMENT STRENGTHENING PROJECT REINFORCES TASIK KENYIR TOURISM INFRASTRUCTURE

HULU TERENGGANU, July 20, 2026 – KETENGAH continues to strengthen tourism infrastructure development at Tasik Kenyir as the Project to Construct and Complete Embankment Strengthening Works for Houseboat Moorings and Toilets, along with Related Facilities at Lot PT1001, has been successfully completed and handed over to KETENGAH in a ceremony held at Pengkalan Utama, Tasik Kenyir.
The Handover and Official Launching Ceremony of the project was officiated by YBhg. Dato' Rozi bin Mamat, Chairman of KETENGAH, whose arrival was welcomed by YM Dato' Tengku Ahmad Nadzri bin Tengku Musa, General Manager of KETENGAH, along with the senior management team of KETENGAH.
The RM8.7 million project involved the construction of 40 houseboat mooring units, 30 speedboat pontoons, a 600-meter pedestrian walkway, 88 parking bays, a security post, a refuse house, and eight public toilet cubicles. The provision of these facilities is expected to directly benefit approximately 160 water transport operators in Tasik Kenyir and improve the efficiency of tourism operation management in the area.
In his opening speech, YBhg. Dato' Rozi stated that the implementation of this project demonstrates KETENGAH's continuous commitment to providing quality, safe, and conducive public facilities to support the development of the tourism sector in the KETENGAH region. This initiative also supports the aspirations of the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development (KKDW) in empowering rural development through the provision of sustainable, competitive infrastructure capable of stimulating the local community's economic growth.
He also expressed his appreciation to Green Monitoring Sdn. Bhd. as the main contractor, Arkitek Punca Cipta as the lead consultant, technical agencies, and all KETENGAH staff who have shown high commitment, leading to the successful completion of this project within the stipulated timeframe. According to him, this Houseboat Mooring Jetty project is believed to gradually resolve the issue of unorganised boat placement around Pengkalan Gawi, thereby creating a more systematic and orderly boat management system. In addition to enhancing safety aspects, these facilities will improve the image of Tasik Kenyir as a premier national tourist destination.
He further emphasised that the success of a development is not only measured by the completion of a project, but rather depends on how well the provided facilities are utilised, managed, and maintained by all parties for the continuous benefit of the community and the tourism industry.
Also present at the ceremony were YM Tengku Mahri bin Tengku Chik, Member of the KETENGAH Board of Directors, KETENGAH Management, contractor representatives, Chairman of the Tasik Kenyir Tourism Association, and representatives from related agencies and departments.
The implementation of this project is expected to be a catalyst for the development of the Tasik Kenyir tourism sector through the provision of more modern, organised, and comfortable facilities, thereby contributing to local economic growth and enhancing Tasik Kenyir's competitiveness as an international ecotourism destination.
