DYTM Yang di-Pertuan Muda of Terengganu Visits Kenyir Geopark Attraction Areas

DYTM Yang di-Pertuan Muda of Terengganu, Tengku Muhammad Ismail Ibni Al-Wathiqu Billah Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin, accompanied by YAM Tengku Sri Setia Mahkota Raja, Tengku Dato’ Seri Muhammad Mua’az Ibni Al-Wathiqu Billah Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin, graciously continued the Kenyir Geopark Exploration Programme on its second day.
His Royal Highness was taken to visit one of the main attractions of Tasik Kenyir, the Kelah Sanctuary at Sungai Petang. The sanctuary was originally developed to conserve and promote the breeding of wild kelah fish in their natural habitat, making it one of Terengganu’s tourism products.
Recognising the importance of preserving this native species of Tasik Kenyir, KETENGAH initiated conservation efforts in 2005, including the domestication of wild kelah fish to be developed as one of the main tourist attractions in Tasik Kenyir.
The strategic planning by KETENGAH and the State Government in conserving river heritage and this iconic species is now integrated with nature-based economic activities, while also serving as a reference centre for scientific research on kelah fish, including breeding and river ecology.
DYTM Yang di-Pertuan Muda of Terengganu later continued with a jet ski activity along the river and lake areas before departing. Also present to accompany His Royal Highness was Yang Mulia Dato’ Tengku Ahmad Nadzri bin Tengku Musa, General Manager of KETENGAH, together with senior state government officers and representatives from related agencies.
