The delicate and captivating rhythms of gamelan music echoed across Pulau Poh, Tasik Kenyir during the Gamelan Music Competition at Festival Kenyir Geopark 2025, making it one of the festival’s most captivating events.

The competition brought together traditional music ensembles from various districts, each presenting performances rich in creativity while showcasing the unique gamelan rhythms of Malay cultural heritage, imbued with historical significance and aesthetic beauty.

Gamelan is a traditional ensemble consisting of various metal-based instruments such as gongs, bonang, kenong, gambang, and saron, played harmoniously to produce soft and melodic tunes. Originating from the old Malay palaces, gamelan music is not only a form of entertainment but also symbolizes politeness, harmony, and the refined cultural values of the Malay community.

This competition not only entertained visitors but also served as a continuous effort to preserve and empower traditional music, ensuring that it remains appreciated by younger generations.

In the competition, Bima Sakti was crowned the champion of the Gamelan Music D’Kenyir, followed by Gamelan Lestari Nada as runner-up, while Gema Pawana secured third place. The Legasi Gamelan KGB ensemble received the Best Creativity Award for their innovative and energetic performance.

Winners were awarded cash prizes of RM2,000 for first place, RM1,500 for second, RM1,000 for third, and RM500 each for consolation and Best Creativity awards.
