VISIT BY POLITEKNIK HULU TERENGGANU, TERENGGANU

Bukit Besi Museum received a visit from 17 students and a lecturer from Politeknik Hulu Terengganu, Terengganu on 18 August 2026. The visit was led by Encik Fahimdin bin Mohd Yusof@ Kamal, a lecturer in Diploma in Tourism Management.
This visit aimed to provide exposure to the students regarding the history of public transportation used during the iron ore mining and processing era in Bukit Besi, which began around 1930 by Nippon Mining Company (NMC) and subsequently continued until the closure of mining activities by Eastern Mining and Metal Company (EMMCO) in 1971.
Throughout the visit, the students were briefed on the history of Bukit Besi's development, the iron ore mining and processing methods, and the lives of the multi-ethnic communities who once resided and worked in this mining area.
The students also had the opportunity to see various artifacts and mining heritage remnants displayed at the museum, which helped them better understand how the iron ore mining industry shaped the social, economic, and environmental development of the local area.
It is hoped that educational visit programmes like this can be continued and strengthened by Politeknik Hulu Terengganu in the future as an informative, relaxed, and effective learning approach, especially in exposing the younger generation to the importance of preserving and appreciating the nation's historical treasures and heritage.
