Kenyir Lake Mahseer Sanctuary Operation Reopens

The Mahseer Sanctuary at Kenyir Lake has reopened to the public following a temporary closure from 22 to 24 August 2025 for maintenance works.
The sanctuary is located at Sungai Petang and can be accessed by boat from Pengkalan Gawi. It operates daily from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Recently, the sanctuary attracted attention after reports circulated regarding the disappearance of mahseer fish, the main attraction for visitors.
Today, the mahseer have returned to their natural habitat and appear tame, waiting for visitors to feed them up close. The Terengganu Tengah Development Authority (KETENGAH), together with relevant agencies, regularly monitors the sanctuary, and public cooperation is highly encouraged to ensure this gem of Kenyir Lake remains well preserved.
YB Datuk Razali bin Idris, Chairman of the Terengganu State Committee for Tourism, Culture, Environment, and Climate Change, along with members of the media, were present to witness the sanctuary now teeming with mahseer.
Visit the Mahseer Sanctuary at Kenyir Lake and enjoy the experience of interacting with the fish while immersing yourself in the natural beauty of the surroundings.
